Carine Roitfeld once said, “Makeup can help you capture a moment.”
I started my career in photography capturing moments with entertainers on stage. As a photojournalist, it was my job to be present in the moment and capture it. Each performance was different. Each entertainer brought a unique look.
Each shoot, my focus was on capturing the right moment.
In my commercial work, capturing moments is still what I love to do. Great makeup, as Carine Roitfeld said, helps create amazing moments in fashion. This year, I launched a new project with international makeup company Colormax. “The Power of Makeup to Transform” will bridge my love for editorial photography with my passion for art and entertainment in an exciting new way. This is going to be a series highlighting the power of makeup to create amazing moments and the power of makeup to transform. With Colormax’s sponsorship, my team and I will have full access to their wide array of quality products, with rich textures and beautiful colors.

My goal is to create breathtaking images with flawless makeup application while highlighting the diversity within the beauty industry. I want to work with models across the range of skin tones and hair types, as well as work with models from straight size to plus size. I love that the beauty and fashion industry is starting to learn what most of us have always known, that beauty is not one-dimensional.
I cannot do this alone.
As an artist, it is a special privilege to work with amazing artists in the beauty, makeup and hair industry. On this shoot, the phenomenally talented artist Jessica Garza of Jessica Garza Makeup brought her creativity and her passion to help me create these stunning images. Jessica has an extensive career in the beauty industry. Some of Jessica’s adventures have lead her to working as a makeup artist on TV show The Little Couple, to working on commercials for The Men's Warehouse, Converse, The Houston Chronicle, for Brian Cushing of the Houston Texans, and for Simone Biles for Mattress Firm, as well as a growing number of local and national magazines. I have worked with Jessica on many shoots and she continues to both awe me as a photographer and wow my clients. She’s amazing!
I had the pleasure to work with two outstanding models who brought great energy and excitement to the shoot. Thank you to Neha and Devinn for their time and professionalism. Each woman has her own distinct beauty and captivating personality. When I take photographs, even when I am focused on commercial, editorial and advertising photography, I strive to capture the personalities and moods of my subjects. These great models helped me to capture not only some great images, but some amazing moments as well!
I was also grateful to have the outstanding support of professional photography and friend Amy Scott of A.E. Scott Photography. I love working with other photographers, finding new ways to look at lighting and composition, and continue to challenge myself by working with others in my industry. Amy brought unique ideas to the shoot and great energy that kept everyone on set in a positive frame of mind. That kind of support is priceless!

This is going to be a multi-part series so I am opening the doors to collaborate with other hair and make-up artists and models looking to create some brilliant images with some outstanding quality makeup. I will select makeup/hair artists to highlight on each shoot and select three to four models for each shoot so showcase that artist’s unique talents. Space is definitely limited. To learn more about the opportunity and to volunteer your time, please contact Kari Schoeffler, my stylist and producer at firstname.lastname@example.org. For models, please include your model comp card or recent images. For hair and makeup artists, please include a link to your website or portfolio of your work. We cannot wait to collaborate with some amazing local talent!
